CHARIS Philippines National Spiritual Directors Conference Opens in Manila

The CHARIS (Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service) National Spiritual Directors Conference officially opened on August 18, 2025, at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in UN Avenue, Manila, bringing together spiritual leaders, preachers, and lay coordinators from across the country.
Organized by CHARIS Philippines and hosted by Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon (The Joy of the Lord), this year’s gathering carries the theme “Power for Mission.”
The three-day (August 18-21) event aims to strengthen the mission of spiritual directors in guiding the faithful and renewing the vitality of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Philippines.
The day began with the arrival and registration of participants in the afternoon. The highlight of the opening was the Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Jose S. Palma, Apostolic Administrator of Cebu and National Episcopal Adviser of CHARIS Philippines. The Elim Communities animated the liturgy, setting a tone of worship and unity.
Following the Mass, Sis. Fe M. Barino, National Coordinator of CHARIS Philippines and a member of CHARIS International, gave an insightful talk on the topic, “What is CHARIS?” She emphasized the importance of collaboration and the role of charismatic lay leaders and spiritual directors in strengthening the Church.
The evening continued with an orientation session led by Bro. Robert Jay Quitain, a Catholic lay preacher, lawyer, and author of inspirational books, who also serves as the emcee and moderator of the conference.
With the theme “Power for Mission,” the conference seeks to empower spiritual directors to embrace their calling with renewed faith and vigor. The event will continue until August 20 with sessions designed to inspire, equip, and unite the Catholic Charismatic movement under one mission of evangelization.
Pope Francis established CHARIS to restructure the Catholic Charismatic Renewal worldwide into a service-oriented organization.
CHARIS Philippines, the national branch of this international service, organizes various events, including the National Charismatic Leaders Conference and the CHARIS Convention. The events are designed to facilitate a spiritual awakening, inspiring participants to live out their faith more vibrantly and to become missionaries in their daily lives.
A key aspect of CHARIS Philippines is emphasizing the importance of unity within the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and its role in the Church's mission.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
