Myitkyina diocese in the northern part of Myanmar opened a 24-hour clinic for families with financial difficulties in the parish of Eden on March 14.

The clinic serving the economically challenged sick patient will waive off basic medical expenses for the poor.

“With the suggestion of the clergy, we opened this clinic to cure the Covid patients in 2021when the pandemic severely broke out and amid political unrest,” said Julia Lawa Kai Ra.

Julia Lawa Kai Ra says volunteer doctors and nurses were ready to serve.

“For this reason, we could treat many Covid-19 victims. Then, St. Luke’s Covid-19 Response Team emerged. Later we could give treatment not only to Covid patients but to the patients with other diseases,” Julia told RVA News.

“The clinic was temporarily opened for Eden’s parish for Covid patients in 2021. Later the clinic was intended for all the sick with any disease for their cheap cost,” Julia said.

Twenty-one health workers, including seven doctors and 14 nurses, run the 24 hours in the clinic.“

When the Covid-19 outbreak spread across the country, clinics and hospitals were insufficient for the victims. Consequently, private clinics were opened and gave medical treatment.

But due to the military coup on February 1, 2021, health services were going down. As a result, humanitarian and religious organizations emerged and provided health services to the needy.

There is Mali Gin Dai hospital for various outpatients in the diocese of Myitkyina. Besides, amid the Covid-19, St. Camillus’ Oxygen Care Center, run by Caritas Myitkyina diocese, was opened and is still giving special care to the patients.
