Bangladesh: Caritas Mymensingh Region celebrates International Day of Indigenous Peoples

Caritas Mymensingh Region in Bangladesh celebrated the International Day of Indigenous Peoples on August 9, 2025.

Focusing on the theme “The effective application of artificial intelligence to establish the rights of Indigenous people and shape their future,” the celebrations took place across the Sherpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona, and Tangail districts, featuring rallies, discussions, cultural shows, and sports events.

Around 2,500 participants, including 1,780 women and 720 men, joined the programs, which brought together indigenous leaders, government officials, civil society members, and Caritas staff.

Caritas Bangladesh is the social development arm of the Catholic Church in the country. Bangladesh is home to about 45 different indigenous communities, with an estimated total population of 2 million tribal and indigenous people.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
