Bangladesh: Catholic School Students Urged to Care for Nature

Students at Narikelbari High School in southwestern Bangladesh receive tree saplings during an environmental awareness program held on July 12, 2026.

Students at Narikelbari High School, located in Satkhira District in southwestern Bangladesh, were encouraged to become caretakers of creation as they received tree saplings during a program promoting environmental awareness on July 12.

Addressing students in Grades 6 to 10, Sr. Mary Debarati, SMRA, headmistress of the school, urged them to see each sapling not simply as a plant but as a symbol of their responsibility toward the environment and future generations.

"The sapling you have received today is not just a tree; it is a symbol of your responsibility, your love for nature, and your commitment to the future," she told the students.

The tree saplings were distributed as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Durjoy Club, a local parish-based organization involved in community service and charitable activities. The initiative aimed to encourage young people to care for the environment by planting and nurturing trees.

Sr. Mary Debarati thanked the club for organizing the program, saying it would inspire students to value environmental conservation and contribute to a greener Bangladesh.

She encouraged each student to take the sapling home, plant it carefully, and look after it regularly.

"One day, this small sapling will grow into a large tree, providing shade, clean air, and making our environment more beautiful for generations to come," she said.

The headmistress also stressed that caring for the environment begins with small but meaningful actions.

"A single sapling planted today is a promise of a greener world tomorrow," she said. "I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in making this initiative possible. May God bless us all."

The event was attended by Assistant Headmaster Dulal Chandra Madhu, Durjoy Club President Saroj Biswas, former President Sohel Rana, members of the teaching staff, and representatives of the club.
