A workshop on sacred liturgical hymns was held at the Christa Jyoti Pastoral Centre in the Diocese of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, from August 21 to 23, drawing over 70 participants, including nuns and lay music trainers.
Organized by the Rajshahi Diocesan Commission for Liturgy and Prayer, the workshop aimed to deepen the sanctity and solemnity of liturgical services.
The training focused on liturgical music in Bengali, Santali, Oraon, and Paharia, as well as on psalmody.
The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Bishop Gervas Rozario of the Diocese of Rajshahi. In his homily, the bishop said, “Let us sing liturgical music with purity. Through music, may worship become a celebration of Christ’s light, faith, communion, and unity.”
The workshop was inaugurated with prayer and candle lighting by Father Suresh Purification, Convener of the Rajshahi Diocesan Commission for Liturgy and Prayer. In his opening remarks, he said, “Worship is the lifeblood of the community. Liturgical music enhances the meaning and solemnity of worship.”
Father Lincoln Costa, Secretary of the Commission, added, “The Eucharist is the highest act of worship; therefore, we must learn liturgical music properly.”
Ms. Patricia, one of the participants, shared her experience: “Through this training, we have learned many liturgical hymns. Now we will be able to teach others in our parish.”
