Bangladesh: Sacred Heart of Jesus Province Marks Milestone Celebrations in Dhaka

A spirit of joy and gratitude filled Moreau House in Dhaka as the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Bangladesh marked a series of significant religious milestones from May 2 to 3.

The celebrations included a Diamond Jubilee, a Silver Jubilee, the profession of Perpetual Vows, and the Diaconate Ordination of two seminarians.

The two-day event drew a vibrant gathering of clergy, nuns, and laity.

Oblate Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze of Dhaka presided over the Jubilee Mass, joined by Holy Cross Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, Holy Cross Archbishop Lawrence S. Howlader of Chattogram; and Brother Paul Bednarczyk, Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

The occasion brought together around 85 priests, 13 brothers, numerous nuns, seminarians, and relatives of the jubilarians and candidates.

In a heartfelt message, Father Peter Caxton Mayanja, Provincial Superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross in East Africa, extended warm greetings to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province in Bangladesh.

He stated, “With deep affection, I greet all the members of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province. May the Lord grant us the grace to respond with courage and generosity to His call — to make Him known, loved, and served. Let us draw inspiration from the lives of the Servant of God Flavian Laplante and Vincent McCauley, our co-patrons in this Year of Mission, as we walk together in faith and service.”

In a momentous expression of commitment, four seminarians pronounced their Perpetual Vows on May 2. Among them were Francis Amukasa, and Bwamble Deusi from the Congregation’s East Africa Province, as well as Nayan Joseph Gomes and Tharson Francis Mrong from the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province in Bangladesh. Their vows signified a lifelong dedication to the religious life, community, and mission of the Holy Cross.

The celebrations continued the next day with the Diaconate Ordination of Nayan Joseph Gomes and Tharson Francis Mrong.

Bishop Emmanuel K. Rozario of the Barisal Diocese led the ordination Mass, emphasizing in his homily the prophetic role of deacons in today’s Church. “Deacons are called to be teachers of faith and witnesses of love and service,” he said.

Reflecting on his ordination, newly ordained Deacon Tharson Mrong shared, “This moment marks the culmination of years of study, prayer, and formation. Becoming a deacon is a call to embody Christ’s service in the world.”

The celebrations were a powerful witness to faith, mission, and international brotherhood, especially with the presence of vowed members from both Bangladesh and East Africa.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Province expressed deep gratitude for the blessings received and renewed its commitment to Christ’s mission in this Jubilee Year of the Congregation.

The event concluded with prayers for continued vocations and fruitful ministry, as the Congregation of Holy Cross continues to serve the people of God around the world.

The Congregation of Holy Cross is an international religious congregation in the Roman Catholic Church composed of religious brothers and religious priests.
