Bangladesh's Santal community observes the 167th anniversary of the historic Rebellion Day

Santal Rebellion Day Programs in Bangladesh

Caritas Bangladesh, the social action arm of the Catholic Church in Bangladesh, marks 50 years as it coincides with the commemoration of Santal Rebellion Day at Kalinagar, Chhoraigachi on July 2.

The non-government development organization celebrates its golden jubilee with the theme, "50 years of love and service.”

Bishop Gervas Rozario of the Rajshahi Diocese highlighted Caritas Bangladesh's tremendous accomplishments in a variety of sectors in Bangladesh in the past 50 years.

In Bangladesh, Caritas played a vital role in the integrated development of the country, starting with the rehabilitation work during and after the war in the war-torn country of 1971.

Caritas now focuses its efforts on education, health, spiritual and moral growth, and the establishment of love and dignity.

State Minister Shadon Chondra Mojumdar, Ministry of Food praised Caritas Bangladesh for its supreme contribution to building the nation.  He called upon the indigenous people to “get united, forgo their internal conflicts, and educate their children.”

Regional Director of Caritas Rajshahi Mr. Sukleash George Costa thanked God and the government for its support of the poorest of the poor and in building the nation.

Over 5,000 individuals attended the celebration at St. Paul's Parish, which included a variety of cultural events.

The Santal Rebellion is a glorious chapter in the history of the struggle against British imperialism. On June 30, 1855, a large gathering of 10,000 Santal peasants gathered at the village of Bhagnadihi in Bhagalpur, India, and decided to revolt against the imperial forces.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
