Cardinal Koovakad Calls for Humility, Commitment, and Unity in Bangladesh Mass

Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad celebrates Mass at Tejgaon Holy Rosary Parish in Dhaka on September 7, 2025.

On a week-long visit to Bangladesh, Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, Prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, celebrated Mass at Tejgaon Holy Rosary Parish, one of the oldest and most prominent parishes in the Archdiocese of Dhaka, on September 7.

Present at the Mass were the delegation from the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, the Apostolic Nuncio to Bangladesh, Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze, Archbishop Lawrence Subrato Howlader, CSC, bishops from various dioceses, priests, religious, and numerous faithful.

Archbishop Bejoy welcomed the Vatican delegation, sharing about the Church in Bangladesh and the history of Tejgaon Holy Rosary Church.

In his homily, Cardinal Koovakad reminded the faithful that God’s wisdom surpasses human understanding, urging humility before His greatness. He stressed that true faith welcomes all and fosters harmony among believers, since God makes room for everyone.

Reflecting on the Gospel, the Cardinal underlined that discipleship demands radical commitment, sacrifice, and detachment from earthly possessions. He clarified that detachment is not rejection but reorientation toward God, walking lightly and freely in His path.

Finally, he urged the faithful to surrender to God’s grace and to become instruments of unity, communion, and reconciliation in today’s world.

At the end of the Mass, Bishop Subrato Gomes expressed gratitude on behalf of the Church in Bangladesh.
