Catholic Church vandalized in Sri Lanka

Vandalism at St. Sebastian's Church, Udugama, Diocese of Galle, Sri Lanka – May 23, 2025.

An unknown person vandalized and desecrated a Catholic church in Sri Lanka on the morning of May 23.

The incident happened at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church, Udugama, in the Catholic Diocese of Galle.

Galle is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Colombo. 

“One suspect has already been arrested by the police, and an investigation is going on,” Gale Diocese said in a social media post on May 23. 

“We request your prayers for the parish priest and the faithful of the parish at this painful and difficult moment,” it added.

St. Sebastian's Church is one of the 17 parishes in the diocese. It is in the Stockland Estate, Udugama, Sri Lanka.
