India: Archdiocese Strengthens Formation of Catechists, Animators and Sacristans
About 75 catechists, animators and sacristans of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad in southern India took part in an ongoing formation program on September 22, focusing on Scripture, liturgy, the sacraments and their role as witnesses of Christ.
The program was held at the Andhra Pradesh Jyotirmai Society Central Office in Sikh Village, Secunderabad, and was organized by the Andhra Pradesh Jyotirmai Society in collaboration with the Hyderabad Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre.
The formation program focused on the witnessing life and ministry of catechists, animators and sacristans, with particular attention to Sacred Scripture, the liturgy and the sacraments.
Resource persons emphasized the call to live as witnesses of Christ by maintaining integrity and consistency between faith and daily life. Participants were encouraged to proclaim the Gospel courageously, reflect Christ’s love through acts of mercy and justice, and remain faithful amid trials and difficulties.
The sessions also highlighted the importance of reading, understanding and applying the Bible in everyday life. Participants reflected on religious skepticism, strengthening the Catholic faith and experiencing God through their daily responsibilities and service.
The program stressed the importance of continuous formation and learning for catechists, animators and sacristans, particularly in helping them guide others in faith and Christian practice and serve as spiritual guides within their communities.
The formation program concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Gifts were also distributed to the participants as a token of appreciation from Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, recognizing their commitment to spiritual service and ministry.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
