Indian Missionary Oblate Appointed Archbishop of Canadian Diocese
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Rev. Fr. Susai Jesu, OMI, a member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of Keewatin-Le Pas, Canada. The appointment was announced on November 17, 2025.
Archbishop-designate Susai Jesu, OMI, was born on May 17, 1971, in Pushpavanam, Tamil Nadu, India. He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bangalore, and theology at the Khrist Premalaya Institute of Theology, Ashta, central India. He later earned a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Saint Paul University, Ottawa. He made his perpetual profession in the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 2000 and was ordained a priest on July 27, 2000.
Fr. Susai Jesu has served in various pastoral and leadership roles, including: Parish Vicar in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh (2000–2002); Parish Priest in Surala Kappa, North India (2002–2005); Parish Vicar in Kombadimadurai, Tamil Nadu (2005–2007); Parish Priest of St. Gertrude, Pelican Narrows, and Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, Sandy Bay (2009–2015); Parish Priest of Sacred Heart of the First Peoples, Edmonton (since 2017); and Provincial Councillor (since 2019).
His extensive pastoral experience and leadership within the Missionary Oblates are expected to guide the faithful of the Keewatin-Le Pas Archdiocese in Canada into a new chapter of mission and service.
