Pakistan: Archbishop Rehmat Inaugurates Silver Jubilee of Catholic High School, Urges Character Formation
On April 28, Archbishop Khalid Rehmat inaugurated the Silver Jubilee year celebrations of a Catholic high school in Lahore run by the Apostolic Carmel (AC) missionary sisters.
The event marked the beginning of a series of celebrations planned by the management of St. Anthony’s High School, Lahore Cantt, to commemorate the milestone year. The final jubilee celebration is scheduled for April 2027.
Established in 2002, the institution is the third branch of the St. Anthony’s educational network in Lahore, alongside St. Anthony’s College and the Faisal Town branch.
As part of the inauguration, Archbishop Rehmat planted a tree on the school campus in connection with the Year of St. Francis. The gesture underscored the institution’s responsibility toward environmental stewardship, inspired by the values of St. Francis of Assisi.
The Archbishop also visited classrooms and school facilities. In his address, he paid tribute to the AC missionary pioneers who founded the school and acknowledged the dedication of the current staff, while pledging continued support for the institution.
He later presided over a liturgical service and, in his homily, addressed the students directly. He emphasized that while academic achievement is important, character formation must take priority. He encouraged students to live by values and to serve as ambassadors of peace and followers of Jesus.
Principal Sr. Azmat, AC, expressed gratitude for the Archbishop’s presence, noting that it served as encouragement for both students and faculty. She reflected on the history of St. Anthony’s High School, recalled the contributions of previous school leaders, and led a moment of remembrance for teachers and students who have passed away since the school’s founding in 2002. She also thanked the congregation for its continued service to the community in Lahore Cantt.
The Apostolic Carmel missionary sisters arrived in Pakistan from the Sri Lanka Province to serve the local community through education in the Lahore Cantt area.
School management confirmed that jubilee celebrations will continue with a series of internal events throughout the academic year, culminating in a grand finale in April 2027, marking 25 years of service by St. Anthony’s High School, Lahore Cantt.
