Pakistan Archbishop Urges Catholic Schools to Strengthen Leadership and Financial Sustainability
Archbishop Joseph Arshad of the diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi called on Catholic school principals to strengthen leadership, ensure financial sustainability, and remain committed to providing quality education during the Annual General Meeting of the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE).
The meeting was held on July 6 in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, bringing together principals of Catholic schools under the archdiocesan education board.
Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Arshad, who chairs the Diocesan Board of Education, urged schools to manage their resources wisely to ensure long-term sustainability and prevent financial challenges from limiting students' access to quality education.
He also encouraged principals to approach their work with professional commitment, describing education as a vocation rather than simply a profession. He said school leaders should inspire teachers, guide students, and foster a culture of trust within their institutions.
The archbishop further emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with parents and the wider community, saying schools should remain open and engaged with society while continuing to promote both academic excellence and the formation of students with strong moral values.
The meeting opened with a prayer led by Fr. Sajjad Manzoor, OMI, followed by a welcome from Snawar Gill, general secretary of the Diocesan Board of Education.
Participants reviewed the outcomes of a recent three-day General Educational Assembly and discussed the board's five-year strategic plan and action priorities. They also received presentations on the board's Child Protection Policy and its implementation across Catholic schools in the archdiocese.
The afternoon session included an open discussion during which principals shared experiences, challenges, and recommendations for strengthening Catholic education.
The Annual General Meeting concluded with closing remarks reaffirming the board's shared commitment to providing quality education rooted in faith, academic excellence, and the holistic development of students.
