Pakistan: Archdiocese of Karachi Clergy Celebrates Jubilee for Priests

The clergy of the Archdiocese of Karachi, Pakistan, celebrated the Jubilee for Priests at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on August 4. The occasion also coincided with the feast of St. Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney (1786–1859), the French Catholic priest who is the patron of priests.
The program began with the Rosary, led by Fr. Alex Gori, followed by reflections from Fathers Afzal Gulfam, Sullivan Joshua, and Akash Akram. Speaking on the theme “Priestly Life and Ministry”, Fr. Arthur Charles reflected on the significance of pastoral ministry and the challenges it faces today, stressing the importance of loyalty and commitment to God’s work.
A procession then took place from St. Joseph’s College to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, with priests carrying a jubilee cross. This was followed by Eucharistic adoration, led by Fr. Asif John, who described it as “a meaningful moment for the priests to come together and reflect on their vocation.”
Fr. Arthur Charles, marking 40 years in the priesthood, presided over the jubilee Mass. He expressed gratitude to God for the gift of his vocation and the opportunity to serve the Church in Pakistan for the past four decades. He also called on priests to remain faithful to God’s mission and to serve His people with dedication and love.
The event, coordinated by Fr. Anthony Abrahim, concluded with a spirit of joy and thanksgiving for the dedication and service of the clergy. Cardinal Joseph Coutts, former Archbishop of Karachi, reminded those present of their mission: “Preach the Gospel, walk with the poor, stand with the Church, and accompany a wounded world with compassion and conviction.”
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
