Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery to Visit Bangladesh for Promoting Integral Human Development
Cardinal Michael F. Czerny, SJ, Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, will pay an official visit to Bangladesh from November 1 to 5, 2025. The central theme of this visit has been chosen as “Raising Hope to Foster a Culture of Care.”
According to a statement from the Vatican Press Office, “Through this visit, Pope Leo XIV expresses his deep solidarity with the people of Bangladesh. Cardinal Czerny’s journey will convey a unique message of moral leadership, climate awareness, and spiritual renewal.”
During his five-day visit, Cardinal Czerny will meet with Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, as well as street children, indigenous communities, and displaced persons.
In addition, he will hold meetings with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh (CBCB), particularly the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace, along with Christian leaders and interreligious representatives.
Born in Czechoslovakia and raised in Canada, this Jesuit priest has held several important responsibilities in the Vatican since 2010. He currently heads the Dicastery that addresses issues related to migration, climate change, poverty, and humanitarian crises.
Accompanying His Eminence on this visit are his Secretary, Father Joseph Savarimuthu, and Ms. Francesca Dona, Asia Regional Coordinator of the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
