‘Punitham Thuramillai’: Youth in Coimbatore Discover that Holiness is within Reach

Over 420 young people from the Diocese of Coimbatore gathered on November 9 for the Youth Jubilee celebration in Tamil Nadu, India.

A vibrant youth gathering in one of South Indian dioceses has rekindled hope among young Catholics, reminding them that holiness is not a distant ideal but a calling within reach.

On November 9, the Diocese of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, joyfully celebrated its Youth Jubilee under the theme “Punitham Thuramillai – Holiness is Not Far Away.” Inspired by the millennial saint Carlo Acutis, the event sought to guide young people toward holiness through a life centered on the Holy Eucharist, which was at the heart of the day’s celebrations.

Fathers Christopher Roach and Christopher animated the day’s sessions, offering profound reflections on the meaning of the Holy Mass, the spiritual grace flowing from the Eucharist, and its power to transform lives. The day also featured Eucharistic Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, counseling sessions, continuous adoration, and a range of artistic and cultural performances filled with youthful creativity and energy.

A highlight of the celebration was the sound and light drama “Unnai Thedi” (In Search of You) and a youth procession carrying the relic of St. Carlo Acutis, symbolizing the journey of faith and holiness.

The day-long celebration brought together around 420 young participants from across the diocese. The concluding Mass was presided over by Bishop Thomas Aquinas, together with several priests of the diocese.

A fellowship meal and a musical event, “Jamapp,” featuring traditional Coimbatore rhythms, added vibrancy to the occasion, blending spirituality with joyful celebration.

The event was meticulously organized by Fr. S. Gnanapragasam, Secretary of the Diocesan Youth Commission, whose leadership ensured a smooth and prayerful experience for all.

As the Jubilee concluded with the bishop’s blessing, the young faithful left inspired to live out their faith more deeply, carrying with them the message that, indeed, “Holiness is not far away.”
