South Indian Diocese Holds Renewal Program for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The Diocese of Karwar holds a renewal program for 28 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at St. Michael’s Convent.

The Diocese of Karwar’s Commission for Liturgy, under the leadership of Fr. Cyprian Silva, organized a one-day Renewal Program for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) at St. Michael’s Convent, Karwar.

The event, held recently, brought together 28 EMHCs from parishes across the diocese for a time of reflection, spiritual growth, and a deepened understanding of their liturgical ministry. The initiative aimed to renew their commitment and strengthen their spiritual foundation in Eucharistic service.

As reported by Catholic Connect, the program began with a warm welcome to all participants. Fr. Cyprian Silva, Diocesan Director of the Liturgy Commission, led the opening session titled “Emmaus Model of EMHC's Journey of Faith.” Drawing inspiration from the Gospel story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, he invited ministers to reflect on their own journeys with Christ, emphasizing the importance of walking closely with the Lord through scripture, prayer, and sacramental service.

A special hour of Eucharistic Adoration followed. During this time, Fr. Cyprian offered a reflection on “Our Disposition in Celebrating the Eucharist,” highlighting the vital role of inner preparation, prayerful presence, and reverence for those who assist at the altar and distribute Communion.

The spiritual high point of the day, according to Catholic Connect, was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Fr. Cyprian encouraged participants to “detach from worldly distractions and seek heavenly treasures,” echoing Christ’s call to “seek first the Kingdom of God.”

The afternoon session concluded the renewal program, with many participants expressing heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity. EMHCs shared that the program deepened their understanding of their sacred role and enriched their personal spiritual lives.

Fr. Cyprian extended thanks to the diocesan bishop for his constant encouragement, to the parish priests for releasing their ministers for the day, and to the St. Michael’s Convent community for their gracious hospitality and meticulous organization.
