Vietnam: Saigon Ordains 21 New Priests to Mirror Christ’s Love

The Archdiocese of Saigon celebrated a momentous occasion as 21 new priests were ordained during a solemn Eucharistic celebration held at the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, southern Vietnam, on June 27, 2025.
The ordination Mass, presided over by Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Năng, took place on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which also marks the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests.
Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Bùi Công Trác and around 250 priests from within and beyond the Archdiocese concelebrated the liturgy, which was attended by the families and communities of the ordinandi.
In his homily, Archbishop Joseph reflected on the profound love of Jesus revealed through the Sacred Heart.
He emphasized that the priesthood is a call to mirror Christ’s pastoral love — to shepherd the people of God, administer the sacraments, and care especially for the poor, the wounded, and those on the margins.
Quoting the teaching of Pope St. John Paul II, Archbishop Joseph reminded the candidates for ordination that priests must be continually sanctified by contemplating the love of Christ.
“Only by allowing your hearts to be transformed by the Sacred Heart of Jesus,” he said, “can you truly become holy in your ministry.”
The Rite of Ordination consisted of three parts: the introductory rites, the essential rites, and the explanatory rites. Fr. Joseph Đỗ Xuân Vinh, Rector of St. Joseph Seminary, formally presented the candidates to the Archbishop.
The liturgy concluded with the Archbishop imparting his blessing and granting a plenary indulgence to all the faithful present.
