Bangladesh bishops’ Conference to celebrate Golden Jubilee on May 27

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh (CBCB) will celebrate its 50th anniversary on May 27.

The occasion marks "CBCB’s service to the country at large," a press note said. CBCB was established in 1971.

The celebration is organized to benchmark Catholic Church’s common pastoral policy and programs in the country.

The event will be held in two parts. The press release said that the morning session would be a seminar with a few delegates at the CBCB Center.

The second portion will be a Mass open to all participating Catholics. All Bangladeshi bishops will attend the event at Holy Rosary Church at Tejgaon in the center of Dhaka, the capital.

The jubilee event committee said that it was ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

Before the CBCB was created, the bishops of Bangladesh were part of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Pakistan.

Approximately 600,000 Christians in Bangladesh are a small minority in a predominantly Muslim country of 162 million people.

With about 390,700 members, the Catholic community is the largest Christian denomination.

There are six dioceses and two archdioceses that make up the eight Catholic jurisdictions in Bangladesh. - Ripon Abaraham Tolentinu /RVA Bengali

RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
