India: Former professor of theology dies at 78

A noted Indian theologian and former professor of theology on May 23 died in Rajasthan, a western Indian state.

Father Subhash Anand of Udaipur diocese was a former professor of Indian Philosophy and Religions and resident of Papal Seminary, Pune, Maharashtra state. He was 78.

He died of a massive heart attack. The funeral will be held on May 24 at 10 in the morning, said Bishop Devprasad Ganawa of Udaipur.

After 30 years of teaching at Papal Seminary, Father Anand was residing at St. Paul's School, Bhupalpura, Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Besides teaching, he also wrote many books and articles on theology and religion. He was an original thinker.

One of his contributions was the "Wald-Bulke Bible Bhashya" (Hindi Bible Commentary).

He was born on November 15, 1943, and was ordained a priest on October 28, 1967. 

“Let us pray for him and be inspired by Father Subhash Anand,” said Jesuit Father Kuruvilla Pandikattu Joseph, professor at Papal Seminary.
