Bishop Basílio do Nascimento of Baucau in Timor-Leste passed away on October 30 at the age of 71.  

The funeral mass will be held at the Baucau Cathedral on November 4, stated Norberto Do Amaral, Bishop of Maliana and President of Conferencia Episcopal Timorense (CET), in a special communique dated October 30.

Bishop Basílio do Nascimento was born on 14 June 1950 in Suai, East Timor. He was ordained a priest in 1977. He was appointed by Pope John Paul II as Apostolic Administrator of Baucau, Timor-Leste in November 1996 and ordained Titular Bishop of Septimunicia in 1997.

In 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed him as Apostolic Administrator of Díli and in 2004 was appointed Bishop of Baucau, Timor-Leste. In 2015 he was appointed again as Apostolic Administrator of Díli and in 2016 ceased to be Apostolic Administrator of Díli. He was a priest for 44 years and a bishop for 24 years.  

East Timor was an FABC Associate Member up until 2012 when it was established as an Episcopal Conference; Bishop do Nascimento was president of the Conferencia Episcopal Timorense (CET) and served from 2012 to 2019. As President of CET, he was a member of the FABC Central Committee. Bishop do Nascimento was present in the ninth FABC Plenary Assembly in 2009 in Manila, Philippines.
