Christ Walks With Us
Reflection Date: April 08, 2026 | Wednesday in the Octave of Easter
Daily Readings: Acts 3:1-10; Luke 24:13-35
Children of God:
Prominent American Catholic theologian, author, and apologist, Scott Hahn once reflected beautifully on the story of the Road to Emmaus and said that it mirrors the structure of the Mass and the journey of Christian discipleship.
He explained that the two disciples were walking away from Jerusalem, discouraged and confused after the death of Jesus.
Along the road, Jesus joined them, though they did not recognize him.
He first explained the Scriptures to them, helping them understand God’s plan.
Later, at table, he took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them.
In that moment, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. Then he vanished from their sight.
The disciples immediately returned to Jerusalem with burning hearts.
This pattern, listening to the Word and breaking of the bread, reflects what happens in every Mass.
It also reflects the journey of every believer who encounters Christ along the way.
In the gospel of Luke, the story of Emmaus revealed that the risen Christ walked with his disciples even when they felt lost and disappointed.
He patiently explained the Scriptures and revealed himself in the breaking of the bread.
What are our inspirations for today?
First, Christ walks with us even when we are unaware of his presence.
The two disciples left Jerusalem carrying heavy hearts. They believed that everything they hoped for had ended with the death of Jesus.
As they walked, they discussed their disappointment and confusion about the events that happened.
Jesus approached and walked with them, but they did not recognize him. He asked them questions and listened to their story.
Then he explained to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures.
Even in their lack of understanding, Christ was already present beside them.
In our lives, there are moments when we feel lost, disappointed, or uncertain. Yet the Emmaus story reminds us that Christ is never absent.
Even when we do not recognize him, he walks with us, listens to us, and gently guides us toward understanding.
Second, recognizing Christ leads us to return and share the good news.
The turning point came when the disciples sat at table with Jesus. In the simple act of breaking bread, their eyes were opened.
What was hidden became clear, and their hearts burned with new faith.
Immediately, they got up and returned to Jerusalem to share what they experienced. Their encounter led them to action.
Every real encounter with Christ calls us to move.
Faith is not meant to keep us in one place.
When we recognize the Lord in the Word, in the Eucharist, and in daily life, we are sent to share that joy and hope with others.
We can reflect on these questions in our hearts. As I walk through my daily life, do I remain aware that Christ is walking with me even in my struggles?
When I listen to the Word of God and participate in the Eucharist, do I allow my heart to be transformed? And after encountering Christ, am I willing to share that experience with others through my words and actions?
Children of God:
The Road to Emmaus is not just a story of the past but a pattern for our lives today.
It shows us that every journey, no matter how confusing, can become a path of encounter.
Christ meets us where we are and walks with us patiently. He speaks to us through the Scriptures and reveals himself in the breaking of the bread.
Our hearts are invited to burn with faith once again.
And when we truly recognize him, we cannot remain the same. We are called to rise, return, and share the good news.
And the ordinary paths we take each day can become sacred journeys of faith.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
