Crossing River Jordan is a Miraculous Event!

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas

August 14, 2025 Thursday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Priest and Martyr
Daily Readings: Joshua 3:7-10a, 11, 13-17; Matthew 18:21-19:1

As God was with Moses, so He promises to be with Joshua. Joshua is now called to lead, and God assures him of divine backing. The priests are instructed to approach with reverence, carrying the Ark of the Covenant. As they step into the swollen Jordan, the waters halt and the ground dries up. Israel crosses safely, just as they did through the Red Sea. God performs another astounding miracle, proving His presence and power.

In the Gospel, Peter asks how often we must forgive. Jesus responds with a radical call to mercy, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. In other words, endlessly. He illustrates this through a parable: a king forgives a servant an enormous debt of ten thousand talents (around 60 million denarii), yet that servant refuses to forgive a peer a minor debt of just one hundred denarii. The contrast is staggering. The ungrateful servant fails to offer the same mercy he received. True forgiveness must flow from our own experience of God’s mercy.

Call to Action: St. Maximilian Kolbe laid down his life for another, choosing sacrifice over self-preservation. Can I make small sacrifices each day, in my family or community, to foster peace, love, and understanding?

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
