November 29, 2025 Saturday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Daniel 7:15-27; Luke 21:34-36

Today’s first reading is the interpretation of yesterday’s reading. Daniel dares to approach one of the attendants and requests the person to interpret the vision especially about the fourth beast. The holy ones are the believers. They will receive the kingdom and possess it forever. The fourth beast, the Roman Empire was indeed a different one. The ten kings (ten horns) successively persecuted Christians for about three hundred years. The eleventh was deadlier as he spoke against God and tried to break God’s law. He attempted to change the sacred seasons and the law. He will be stripped of his power on the day of judgement. The text ends with a prophecy. All the greatness of earthly kingdoms will be given to the “saints of the Most High”. It will last forever. The reading teaches us that God has and will have the last word. Ultimate victory belongs to Him. There is hope for the faithful. We will have to face hardships, sufferings and persecutions. All of them are temporary however terrifying they are.

The Gospel reading of the day begins with a warning “Be on guard”. The believers are not supposed to bog down to dissipation, drunkenness and worries of this life. Anything excessive destroys a person. There is no room for complacency and procrastination. They are to be vigilant and spiritually prepared always so that they will not be caught up unexpectedly. The day of the Lord will come like a thief unannounced. The message is clear: “Be alert at all times” and pray for strength, courage, wisdom and knowledge to read the signs of the time. Reliance in God and in God’s providence will prepare the faithful adequately. There is hope always for those who rely on God and His mercy. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Call to Action: Today is the last day of the Liturgical Year 2025. Tomorrow begins the Advent Season. Let us make earnest efforts to pray and remain in prayer to strengthen our belief and commitment to God.
