Our God is more powerful than tribulation, distress, persecution and the like!

October 30, 2025 Thursday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:  Romans 8:31b-39; Luke 13:31-35

Today’s first reading is theologically very strong, sound and profound. He describes God as someone who gave up His Son wholeheartedly and without any hesitation. It is He who justifies. It is He who raised Jesus from the dead. If He is with us, no one can be against us. When it comes to Jesus Christ, Paul proclaims his Gospel, namely, Christ died and he was raised and is seated at the right hand of God. He intercedes for us. It is something that we proclaim everyday in the Holy Eucharist as the mystery of Christian faith. Paul is certainly convinced that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Nothing in this world is more powerful than the love of Christ. The world may think that it can control our life but Christians will conquer and turn victorious because God’s love is all embracing.

The Pharisees inform Jesus about Herod’s plan to kill Jesus. Jesus becomes aware of the impending danger. He dares to call Herod a cunning fox and expresses his determination to go ahead to Jerusalem with his plans. Fox is known for its cunningness and deceit. The Sanhedrin is more dangerous than Herod. Joined together they become a force to reckon with. Like all the other prophets, Jesus would also die in Jerusalem. He bewails over Jerusalem for its inhabitants have rejected him. The imagery of a hen gathering her brood expresses his motherly love for people. He laments deeply over their non-cooperation and rejection of Jesus. He takes this opportunity to tell them that the people who reject him will soon sing his glory. They will sing, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord” (Luke 13:35). Yes! The Jerusalemites will gather together and welcome Jesus into Jerusalem with singing and holding olive branches in their hands as if welcoming a King. Yes! Jesus is king unlike other kings. He is King of the Universe.

Call to Action: Opposition and Rejection are like bread and butter for the believers in Christ. We are not only believers but also evangelizers and missionaries. Are we ready to face the challenges of the day?

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
