On June 27, 2025, Caritas Sri Lanka–Social and Economic Development Centre (SEDEC) marked a historic milestone with the blessing and inauguration of its new building, a long-awaited vision turned into reality.
Bishop Harold Anthony, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka and Chairman of Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC; Bishop Justin Gnanapragasam, former Chairman of Caritas Sri Lanka and Bishop of Jaffna; and Bishop Maxwell Silva, former Vice Chairman of Caritas Sri Lanka and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, participated in the ceremony, which was led by National Director Fr. Luke Nelson.
The new facility features a modern conference hall that can accommodate over 250 participants and 12 fully air-conditioned guest rooms, enabling Caritas Sri Lanka to host national and international gatherings, training programs, and collaborative missions.
The building stands as a symbol of unity, faith, and service, reflecting Caritas Sri Lanka’s ongoing commitment to justice, peace, and human dignity.
SEDEC is the social arm of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka, established in 1968 to promote integral human development.
Caritas Sri Lanka is a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global Catholic organization that provides humanitarian and development aid to impoverished and vulnerable communities.
Founded in the 1950s, Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 162 national Catholic relief, development, and social service organizations, operating in over 200 countries and territories, addressing poverty, inequality, and social exclusion worldwide.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
