The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity in the wake of the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on the afternoon of June 12, 2025.

The London-bound aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, crashed shortly after takeoff, leaving the nation in shock and mourning.

In a statement released by CBCI PRO Fr. Robinson Rodrigues, the bishops conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives in the devastating accident.

"Our prayers are with them in this hour of immense grief and loss. We also pray fervently for the speedy and complete recovery of all those who have been injured in the crash," the statement read.

The CBCI also acknowledged the tireless efforts of emergency and rescue personnel at the crash site and affirmed the Church’s solidarity with the victims and their families.

In a call for nationwide prayer, the CBCI urged the Catholic faithful and all people of goodwill to join in spiritual support for the victims: "Let us pray for the eternal rest of those who have died, for comfort to the bereaved, and strength and healing for the injured. May God, our source of hope and consolation, sustain all those affected by this terrible disaster."
