China: Beijing Diocese Celebrates Priestly Ordinations, Episcopal Anniversary, and Silver Jubilee

The Catholic Diocese of Beijing marked a historic day on September 19, 2025, with a solemn celebration at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Xishiku Cathedral). The occasion brought together three milestones: the priestly ordination of two deacons, the 18th episcopal anniversary of Bishop Joseph Li Shan, and the Silver Jubilee of six priests. According to Faith Press, the Thanksgiving Mass was presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Xuebin Zhen.
During the liturgy, Deacons Andrew Sun Yajing and Peter Duan Zhijun were ordained to the priesthood. Speaking on behalf of the newly ordained, Fr. Sun Yajing expressed profound gratitude to God for his vocation, to Bishop Li Shan and Bishop Zhen for their guidance, and to the faithful for their constant support. He pledged to live out his priesthood with humility and zeal, dedicating his ministry to serving the Church and bearing witness to Christ’s love.

The diocese also honored the 25th priestly anniversary of six priests: Fr. Guo Wenwu, Fr. Bian Yin, Fr. Sun Yongshu, Fr. Wang Heping (administrator of the Diocese of Baotou, Inner Mongolia), Fr. Yang Yu, and Fr. Shi Huimin. Bishop Li Shan commended their tireless pastoral service, highlighting their role as steadfast witnesses of faith who have inspired and accompanied countless faithful in their spiritual journeys.
As Faith Press noted, the celebration highlighted both the vitality of new vocations and the perseverance of long-serving pastors. It was a moment of unity and thanksgiving, underscoring the continuity of faith and pastoral mission in the Diocese of Beijing, and leaving the local Church with a memory of joy and grace.
