China: Shanxi’s Linfen Diocese Welcomes Two New Priests and One New Deacon

The Catholic Diocese of Linfen in Shanxi Province, north China, joyfully celebrated the ordination of two new priests and one deacon on November 29, 2025, at the Hongtong Square Catholic Church. In a solemn and grace-filled liturgy, Bishop Liu Genzhu conferred the Sacrament of Holy Orders on Joseph Chai Xuefei and Peter Li Shuangxue, who were ordained priests, and on Anthony Fan Weiwei, who was ordained a deacon.

Priests, religious, and hundreds of lay faithful from across the diocese gathered to witness this important moment in the life of the local Church. According to Faith Press, the ordination brought “renewed vitality and hope” to the Diocese of Linfen as it continues its pastoral mission.

The Newly Ordained

Fr. Joseph Chai Xuefei
Born on March 21, 1991, in Matou Village, Hongtong County, Chai studied at Linfen Tourism and Foreign Affairs College (2008–2011) before working in social fields until 2016. He then pursued seminary formation at Jilin Catholic Seminary from 2016 to 2024. After his graduation, he completed his pastoral internship in the diocese and was ordained a deacon by Bishop Liu on November 30, 2024.

Fr. Peter Li Shuangxue
Born on October 9, 1997, in Jinbao Village, Li worked in social service from 2013 to 2016 before beginning his formation at Jilin Catholic Seminary (2016–2024). Following seminary graduation, he served in pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Linfen and was ordained a deacon on November 30, 2024.

Dn. Anthony Fan Weiwei
Born on November 23, 1997, in Xuejiazhuang Village, Fan entered Jilin Catholic Seminary in 2017 and completed his studies in June 2024. He has served in pastoral work in the diocese since graduation, preparing for the sacred ministry. His ordination as deacon took place on November 29, 2025.

As Faith Press reports, the addition of new clergy strengthens the pastoral outreach of the Diocese of Linfen and supports the growing faith life of communities across Hongtong County and beyond.
