Faith leaders participate in International Yoga Day celebration in Delhi

Various faith leaders took part in celebrating International Yoga Day at Red Fort Delhi on June 21.

The theme was “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi addressed the gathering online, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha (lower house of the parliament) Om Birla was the chief guest and gave the keynote speech.

The interfaith leaders also spoke on the theme of yoga from the perspective of their religious traditions.

Divine Word Father Norbert Herman represented the Christian community and enriched the gathering with reflections on yoga and the Bible.

Herman is one of the leading promoters of inter-religious dialogue in the Archdiocese of Delhi, India.

The event was organized in collaboration with Brahma Kumaris and the Ministry of Ayush, the Government of India, responsible for developing education, research, and propagation of traditional medicine.

Since its adoption by the United Nations in 2014, June 21 has been observed globally as the International Day of Yoga. The day promotes global health, harmony, and peace.
