India: Catholic School’s Inter-School Quiz Inspires Young Minds in Social Science
St. Theresa High School, Sto. Estevam, in the western Indian state of Goa, hosted the third annual ‘Worldly Wits 3.0’, an inter-school social science quiz for neighboring schools, on August 21. More than just a competition, the event served as a platform for young minds to explore, engage, and develop an interest in the social sciences.
The program began with a prayer dance and a floral welcome, followed by the unveiling of the official logo by the chief guest, Rev. Fr. Andrew Silveira. He was joined by Sr. Liberata Fernandes, Headmistress; Sr. Hilda Lopes, Manager; Ms. Maria Acklin, PTA chairperson; special guest Sr. Molly Fernandes, Directress of Holy Family Communications Centre (HOFCOM); quiz masters, staff members, and students.
In his welcome address, Mr. Sunil, former PTA chairperson, remarked that “a spark has turned into a flame,” with 12 schools participating in this year’s edition. He extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and competing teams. Teacher-anchor Swizel Fernandes explained that the event logo symbolized knowledge, creativity, and the global perspective that social science offers.
From the 12 participating schools in the preliminary round, six advanced to the finals. The winners received trophies and certificates, while all teams were recognized with participation awards.
Addressing the gathering, Headmistress Sr. Liberata Fernandes praised the students for their enthusiasm and urged them to remain updated on current affairs. The quiz left a lasting impression, with one participant noting: “We learned a lot, and it was both inspiring and educational. Though we did not win, we are proud of our effort.”
The winning team from Fr. Agnel High School, Pilar, expressed their joy: “We were nervous and anxious, but managed to keep our cool. We are overjoyed to be the winners of Worldly Wits 3.0.”
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
