The Philippine Movement for Climate Justice, in partnership with Radio Veritas Asia, will host a regional webinar on September 23, 2026, to promote a faith-based approach to renewable energy and the energy transition across the Asia-Pacific region.
Titled “Light for Our Common Home: Accelerating a Catholic-Led Renewable Energy Transition in Asia Pacific,” the webinar will serve as the launch activity for a project aimed at helping Catholic communities, particularly in the Philippines and Indonesia, develop community-based renewable energy transition plans rooted in the vision of Laudato Si’.
The 90-minute regional webinar will be held during the Season of Creation, observed annually from September 1 to October 4, and will bring together Catholic leaders, Laudato Si’ Animators, religious communities, educators, climate advocates and other participants from across the region.
The webinar will provide participants with a faith-informed introduction to renewable energy and energy transition planning, while highlighting practical community-level initiatives from the Philippines, Indonesia and other parts of Asia-Pacific.
The regional webinar will help Catholic communities share experiences, learn from one another and work together on renewable energy and environmental action. It will also encourage cooperation between Catholic and interfaith groups across Asia-Pacific.
The webinar aims to help participants understand renewable energy transition through the lens of Laudato Si’, learn from practical experiences, and explore an upcoming renewable energy transition toolkit and regional faith-based campaign.
Participants will also be encouraged to begin developing renewable energy transition plans at the parish and school levels in their respective communities.
Ian Rivera, National Coordinator of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (Asia Pacific), will discuss regional data, policy developments and community-level energy transition initiatives.
Sr. Ida Ferrao from India will share the experience of religious communities in ecological conversion and renewable energy action.
The webinar is scheduled for September 23 at 5 p.m. Manila time, corresponding to 4 p.m. in Jakarta, 6 p.m. in Seoul, 7 p.m. in Sydney and 9 p.m. in Auckland.
A second regional webinar is planned for Laudato Si’ Week in May 2027, continuing efforts to encourage Catholic communities across Asia-Pacific to take concrete action toward a clean and sustainable energy future.
