India: Miao Diocese Marks 100th World Mission Sunday With Family Rosaries, Processions and Food Festival

Catholics in the Diocese of Miao, northeastern India, celebrate World Mission Sunday on October 18, 2026, through prayer and missionary activities.

The Diocese of Miao in Arunachal Pradesh, northeastern India, marked the 100th World Mission Sunday on October 18 with prayer, missionary animation, family rosaries, community initiatives and fundraising activities, renewing its commitment to evangelization and solidarity with the Church’s mission worldwide.

Bishop George Pallipparambil, SDB, of Miao encouraged parishes and mission centers to organize meaningful activities to commemorate the centenary and strengthen the missionary spirit among the faithful.

“Let the celebrations remind each one of us that we are not just baptised believers, but missionary disciples, who follow Jesus and make others disciples. And this is the most urgent need of the Church in our context,” he said.

The bishop also urged the faithful to pray for those who have not encountered Christ, those who need further catechesis and those who have yet to hear the Gospel.

Across the diocese, parishes organized initiatives combining prayer, formation and practical support for missionary work.

At St. Mary Catholic Church in Loaksim, Longding district, a missionary animation program helped deepen the faithful’s understanding of their responsibility in evangelization.

The Christ the King Parish community in Khonsa, Tirap district, organized family rosaries to pray for missionaries engaged in pastoral and evangelizing work across the diocese. Parish priest Fr Subhash Michael thanked families for uniting in prayer for those serving local communities.

At Mary Help of Christians Parish in Borduria, parish priest Fr C. J. Mathew appreciated the people’s generous contributions to the missions, saying that every offering, however small, helps sustain the Church’s mission.

At Ozako Mission, Fr Sunil organized a solemn procession before the Eucharistic celebration to encourage missionary zeal and greater participation in the Church’s evangelizing mission.

St. Peter’s Parish in Tezu, Lohit district, combined missionary animation with fundraising. Each Basic Ecclesial Community prepared a food item for a food festival, inviting parishioners to purchase breakfast and contribute to missions around the world.

Mr. Soplum Toh, a touring catechist of the mission, highlighted the role of every baptized Christian in evangelization.

“It is important to remember that the missionaries are not just Fathers and Sisters. Every baptised person is a missionary. Today’s animation is a much-needed reminder of this truth,” he said.

Francis Mossang of Sacred Heart Parish in Neotan, Changlang district, also reflected on the significance of the centenary, which gave the annual celebration special meaning.

The initiatives across the Diocese of Miao highlighted the shared responsibility of all the baptized to proclaim Christ. Through prayer, missionary formation, family participation and financial contributions, the faithful reaffirmed their commitment to supporting missionaries and sustaining the Church’s evangelizing mission worldwide.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
