India: Mysore Diocese Health Commission Charts Holistic Care Plan for Jubilee 2025

Mysore Diocesan Health Commission meets at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bannimantap, on August 22, 2025.

The Diocesan Health Commission of Mysore gathered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bannimantap, on Aug 22 to renew the Church’s mission of healing in the context of the Jubilee Year 2025. The meeting, first reported by Catholic Connect, brought together 55 delegates including priests, religious sisters, doctors, nurses, administrators, and social workers.

In his keynote, Msgr. Alfred John Mendonca highlighted the Jubilee as a call for the Church to embody Christ’s healing presence. He emphasized holistic care that restores dignity, integrates spiritual support, and welcomes the sick, elderly, differently abled, and children with special needs. He identified priority areas such as pastoral care for the elderly, inclusion of children with special needs, and deeper integration of spiritual care in Catholic health institutions.

Fr. Thomas Roxan Baros outlined the Regional Health Commission’s vision for collaborative healthcare outreach, while Fr. Arul Selva Kumar encouraged partnerships between hospitals, homes for the aged, special schools, and parish health cells. Sr. Anna Mary, SMMI, presented the current status of diocesan health initiatives, pointing to both challenges and opportunities.

Delegates recommended improving healthcare access for the elderly and home-bound, strengthening Catholic institutions through shared resources, integrating pastoral care into hospitals, creating awareness on disability rights, and involving parish youth in health-related outreach. These proposals were consolidated into a Jubilee Action Plan for implementation.

The meeting concluded with fellowship and gratitude, as participants reaffirmed their dedication to Christ’s healing mission. Reflecting on Matthew 25:36, “I was sick and you visited me…”,  the Health Commission pledged to serve with compassion and professionalism.

As noted by Catholic Connect, the Diocese of Mysore seeks to make Jubilee 2025 not only a celebration but also a renewed commitment to holistic and inclusive healthcare.
