India: SCIENTASTICA 6.0 Marks National Science Day

On February 19, 2026, St. Theresa High School in St. Estevam, Goa, marked National Science Day with the sixth edition of its annual science program, SCIENTASTICA 6.0.

On 19 February 2026, St. Theresa High School, St. Estevam, in Goa, southwest India, observed National Science Day with the sixth edition of its annual science programme, SCIENTASTICA 6.0. 

The event commemorated Sir C.V. Raman and focused on the theme, “Women in Science Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” The programme highlighted the contribution of women to scientific development and their role in building a developed India.

The day began at 9:00 a.m. with a pre-event session led by the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Mabel Menezes, Executive Member of the Goa Bird Conservation Network. She delivered a presentation on the birds of Goa, drawing attention to local biodiversity and conservation concerns.

The formal inaugural ceremony commenced at 10:00 a.m., compered by students Sidra and Anaiah. Teacher Marcia introduced the guests. The programme opened with the school anthem and a prayer dance, followed by a floral welcome.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Sandra Dias e Fernandes, Chairperson of Seeblu Pani Vatap Vyavastha Lift Irrigation Society, Sangolda, along with Mrs. Menezes, Headmistress Sr. Liberata Fernandes, Manager Sr. Hilda Lopes, and other dignitaries, garlanded a portrait of Sir C.V. Raman in tribute to his contribution to Indian science.

A key moment of the ceremony was the unveiling of the SCIENTASTICA 6.0 logo by the Chief Guest. The logo symbolised innovation and discovery. The event was then formally declared open. Students presented the Scientastica theme song, composed and produced within the school.

In her welcome address, Headmistress Sr. Liberata Fernandes referred to National Science Day as an occasion to reflect on the discovery of the Raman Effect while considering contemporary scientific challenges. She emphasized the theme of women’s participation in science, stating that encouraging girls to pursue STEM disciplines is essential for national progress.

She also acknowledged the efforts of students who participated in the Goa Talent Search Examination and the Global Olympiad, noting their academic commitment. Concluding her address, she urged students to continue engaging in inquiry and innovation beyond the classroom.

The programme included a prize distribution ceremony recognizing achievement in the Science Quiz, Model Exhibitions and the Global Olympiad. Students were awarded certificates and prizes by the dignitaries.

An exhibition of student projects was arranged in the school hall. The displays covered a range of subjects, including physics experiments, environmental studies, and applied science models. The exhibits demonstrated practical applications of classroom learning and reflected student engagement with contemporary scientific issues.

According to organizers, SCIENTASTICA 6.0 aimed to reinforce scientific awareness while promoting inclusivity in STEM education. By aligning National Science Day with the theme of women’s participation in science, the school sought to encourage broader representation in scientific fields.

The event concluded with visitors interacting with student exhibitors and reviewing project demonstrations. Faculty members noted steady student participation and interest across grade levels.

With its combination of academic recognition, thematic focus and student-led exhibition, SCIENTASTICA 6.0 marked National Science Day through a structured programme centred on scientific inquiry and gender inclusion in education.
