Newly Ordained Indonesian CICM Priests to Begin Missionary Service in Mongolia and Latin America
Three newly ordained Indonesian priests of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) have been assigned to missionary service in Mongolia and the Dominican Republic, reflecting the congregation's commitment to sending missionaries wherever the Church is most in need.
Following their priestly ordination on July 14, the three new missionaries received their first overseas assignments from Fr. Joni Payuk, CICM, superior of the CICM Asia District (Singapore-Indonesia).
Fr. Wilibaldus Klaudius Koban, CICM, will begin his ministry in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, where the congregation serves one of its mission territories in Asia.
Fr. Oktavius Riawan Magul, CICM, and Fr. Imel Salle Karurung, CICM, have been assigned to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, where they will join the congregation's mission in Latin America.
The three priests, all from eastern Indonesia, were ordained by Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, Archbishop of Jakarta, during a Eucharistic celebration at Christ the Savior Parish in Slipi, Central Jakarta.
Fr. Payuk thanked Cardinal Suharyo for presiding over the ordination on behalf of the CICM Asia Province and the Latin America-Caribbean Province.
Fr. Magul and Fr. Koban are from Flores, an island in East Nusa Tenggara Province, while Fr. Karurung is from Tana Toraja in South Sulawesi Province, a region that has long produced vocations to the missionary congregation.
Their ordination follows years of spiritual, academic, and pastoral formation. Before becoming priests, they completed religious formation in CICM communities in Makassar and Yogyakarta, studied philosophy and theology, professed perpetual vows, and gained missionary experience through pastoral internships in Indonesia and abroad before being ordained deacons.
