One million children pray the Rosary on October 18

One million children praying the rosary for unity and peace

One million children are expected to pray the Rosary for peace together on Wednesday, October 18, a yearly event, in different parts of the world, according to the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) initiative, an international pontifical foundation.

The organizer said “The Rosary is a God-given and necessary means that makes a decisive difference”, said Cardinal Mauro Piacenza Anton Laesser CP, president ecclesiastical assistant.

He added “the experience of the Church and many of its saints, confirmed by the Church's Doctrine, and in line with the Christian sense of faith.”

For example, St. Louis Maria Grignon de Montfort wrote: "I beseech you, pray the Rosary daily! You will one day praise in heaven the day and the hour when you believed me," said Laesser.

“In the Church-approved apparition at Fatima, it is Our Lady herself who urges the still very young shepherd children to pray the Rosary daily and to offer up this prayer for the conversion of sinners and for peace in the world,” he said.

One of the shepherd children, Lucia, wrote: "In these last times in which we live, the Most Blessed Virgin has given the Rosary a new power. There is therefore not a single problem, however serious, [...] that we cannot solve by praying the Rosary. With the Rosary we will save ourselves, sanctify ourselves, console our Lord, and obtain the salvation of many souls."

For this year's Day of Prayer, the initiator asked participants to consider another aspect of praying the Rosary which is the contemplation of the mysteries of the life of Jesus Christ embedded in the visit of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary.

“And it is the angel who receives Mary's response and delivers it to God. The Church knows about these holy spirits, about the visible and the invisible creation. From here we may learn that an angel, a purely spiritual person without a body, is placed at the side of each of us with God's help. He can and wants to help us to learn to understand and realize the new and eternal life received in baptism,” said Laesser.

“Is it not an imperative for our world that we become aware of the holy guardian angels again and ask for their help, so that we may learn to recognize clearly and distinguish clearly in the manifold challenges of our time?”

“Would it not make sense to teach children again the prayer of the guardian angels, which for many centuries was a matter of course in the life of the Church?”

Against this background, in this year's campaign we would like to present to the children the story in which Saint Joseph is warned by the angel in a dream and immediately sets off for Egypt. How he was able to protect the life of the baby Jesus with the help of the holy angel, said Laesser.

“We would like you to organize meetings in as many places as possible, involving children's groups, schools, prayer groups, radio and television, digital platforms, social media ... and even your own children and grandchildren,” the initiators said.
