A Catholic priest was among a select group of guests invited to participate in a high-level education summit hosted by the Sindh provincial government in Pakistan on March 20, 2026.

The summit was held at the Governor's House in Karachi, the country’s major seaport city.

Fr. Mario Angelo Rodrigues, principal of St. Patrick’s High School in Karachi, attended the event as a representative of the Catholic Board of Education of the Archdiocese of Karachi, on the special invitation of the newly appointed governor of Sindh.

Speaking to RVA, Fr. Rodrigues said the newly appointed governor, Nehal Hashmi, appreciated the longstanding contribution of Church-run schools. “He acknowledged the remarkable services of St. Patrick’s High School and other Catholic institutions in Karachi and assured his full support to the Catholic Board of Education, especially in its mission to educate children in underprivileged areas,” he said.

“The Catholic Church in Pakistan has played a vital role in education,” Fr. Rodrigues added. “I appreciate the governor’s commitment to strengthening the education system and his recognition of leading institutions in the city.”

He noted that the summit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore collaborative initiatives to enhance learning across institutions. “The gathering has given new hope for the development of the education system,” he said.

Governor Hashmi, who assumed office on March 15, hosted the summit during his first week, bringing together representatives from prominent schools and universities in Karachi to work toward aligning educational policies with national standards.
