Pakistan: Karachi Archbishop Confirms 103 Youth during Parish Visit

Archbishop Benny Mario Travas administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 103 candidates at St. Monica’s Church in Karachi, Pakistan, on May 22, 2026.

Archbishop Benny Mario Travas of Karachi, southern Pakistan, administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 103 candidates during a pastoral visit to St. John’s Parish in Karachi, on May 22.

The Eucharistic celebration and civic reception were held at St. Monica’s Church in Bhittaiabad No. 2, a neighborhood in Karachi’s eastern district. Parishioners, catechists, families, and clergy gathered for the ceremony.

Upon arrival, Archbishop Travas was welcomed by community representatives, who presented him with a Sindhi ajrak, a traditional block-printed shawl from Pakistan’s Sindh province symbolizing hospitality and respect, and a Punjabi kulah, a traditional cap associated with the Punjab region.

Members of parish associations accompanied the archbishop in a procession with traditional drum performances, while Sunday School students presented a welcome song.

The Mass began with a liturgical procession led by Archbishop Travas. During his homily, Archbishop Travas thanked parents and catechism teachers for preparing the candidates for the sacrament.

“The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity,” he said. “The Holy Spirit grants us courage, wisdom, and faithfulness. He transforms our lives and makes us new individuals.”

He encouraged the candidates to become “true witnesses of Jesus Christ” through their faith and daily lives.

Following the homily, the candidates renewed their baptismal promises before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

At the end of the Mass, Lydia Mary Shahid spoke on behalf of the candidates and thanked the archbishop, clergy, catechists, and pastoral team for their guidance and support.

Several newly confirmed youth said the sacrament strengthened their faith and encouraged them to take a more active role in parish life and Church activities.
