Philippines: Bishop Pabillo Braves Floodwaters for Pastoral Visit in Palawan

Bishop Pabillo visits the Cagait island community in Palawan despite floods and heavy rains on September 13-15, 2025.

Despite heavy rains and floodwaters, Bishop Broderick Soncuaco Pabillo, Vicar Apostolic of Taytay, made a pastoral visit to the remote island community of Cagait in Culion, Palawan, from September 13 to 15, 2025.

The 70-year-old bishop, known for his outspoken stand against social injustice and corruption, waded through rivers and muddy paths to reach the faithful. His crosier, usually carried as a liturgical symbol, became both a staff of service and a source of support along the difficult journey.

The pastoral visit formed part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay’s continuing efforts to strengthen mission areas and accompany communities in the peripheries. Bishop Pabillo celebrated Mass, met with local families, and encouraged them to grow as vibrant mission stations that embody faith and solidarity.

Observers noted the bishop’s humility and determination, which reflected his deep love for the Church and Christ’s flock. His willingness to endure hardship to be present among the people offered a powerful witness of pastoral service.

Bishop Pabillo’s latest visit underscores his commitment to ensuring that no community, however distant, is left unattended in the Church’s mission of evangelization.

RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
