OPMusik–Dominican Communications Philippines proudly raised the Philippine flag on the world stage at the Rome-hosted Catholic Music Awards on July 27, securing two major international accolades. The prestigious event, dubbed the “Grammys of Catholic Music,” celebrates excellence in faith-inspired music.

The group won Best Liturgical Song for “Lord, Here I Am”, composed by Dominican friar Fr. GPV Arsciwals, OP, and performed by Koro Dominiko, as well as Best Parish Choir for Koro Dominiko’s rendition of “Dominican Blessing.”

The awards ceremony was held at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome, Vatican City, and was broadcast live to Catholic communities around the world.

Organised by the Fundación Ramón Pané (Spain), in partnership with the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, the Catholic Music Awards were conceived by Cardinal Óscar Rodríguez Maradiaga and first launched during World Youth Day 2024 in Lisbon.

The awards aim to recognize and promote musical excellence in the service of the Catholic faith, honoring composers, musicians, and choirs who enrich the liturgical and devotional life of the Church through their art.

OPMusik received four nominations across three categories:

  • Best Liturgical Song – “Lord, Here I Am” (Koro Dominiko)
  • Best Marian Song – “Hail Mary” (Santo Domingo Male Chorale)
  • Best Parish Choir – Santo Domingo Male Chorale (Memorare) and Koro Dominiko (Dominican Blessing)

The twin victories mark a significant milestone for Philippine liturgical music, showcasing the depth of spirituality and talent within the Dominican-led musical ministry.

Both winning entries were produced by OPMusik, the music apostolate of Dominican Communications Philippines.

“These awards are not just a recognition of musical artistry,” said Fr. Arsciwals. “They are a testimony to the power of sacred music to move hearts and bring souls closer to God.”

The Catholic Music Awards set a precedent in honoring faith-inspired music on a global scale, offering a platform that may inspire future celebrations of sacred music in the years to come.
