A parish in Bangladesh’s  Rajshahi diocese marked the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes with prayers, lighting of candles, and a pilgrimage to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary on February 11.

Father Patrick Gomes celebrated the eucharistic celebration with twenty priests, fifteen nuns, and over 1000 faithful.

Like other years, the novenas were held from February 2 to 10 in Bonpara parish.  On the eve of the feast, pilgrims prayed the way of the cross. And before the feast mass, the people prayed the rosary.

"God's love and mercy manifest through his Son to whom Virgin Mary intercedes. Bernadette collects firewood to help his mother, and he meets another Mother. Many apparitions of our Lady of Lourdes," Father Patrick said in the homily.

Father Patrick said, “repent and come away from a sinful life and pray the rosary. Family prayer brings graces and blessings. The family that prays together stays together.”

"Mother understands, feels when children are in difficulty. Tells her son. The Stewarts do as Jesus orders them. When following God's word, there is transformation. It calls to us to be unstained, holy, and pure in thought, mind, and body," the priest said.

Teresa Gomes, a Maria devotee, said, "Today I am very grateful to my Virgin Mother Mary because I have asked her for help at different times, and Virgin Mother Mary has fulfilled it."

Parish Priest Father Dilip S. Costa invited the pilgrims  to “be like Mother Mary and be an ideal mother, and for children to pray the rosary always.”

The Our Lady of Lourdes Parish church was established in the Diocese of Rajshahi in 1940.
