Bangladesh’s NGO celebrates linguistic diversity for children’s growth

Bangladesh’s Dhaka Credit Child Care and Education Centre observed International Mother Language Day (MLD) at Monipuripara on February 20.

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) strives to create awareness of the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity. It promotes multilingualism for the benefit of children aged 18 months to six years old.

Dhaka Credit Child Care and Education Centre community observed IMLD show their respect and gratitude to Shaheed Minar, a monument built to commemorate in memory of the martyrs.

Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day are celebrated by laying wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in honor of the language martyrs of 1952.

The day was observed with due dignity under the slogan in Bangla "Moder Garb, Moder Asha, Aa Mori Bangla Bahasa."

Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO said, "International Mother Language Day is a moment for all of us to raise the flag for the importance of mother tongue to all educational efforts, to enhance the quality of learning and to reach the unreached.”

Chief Officer Sweety Cicilia Purification highlighted the history and significance of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.

"As early childhood care and education are the foundations of learning, education based on the first language or mother tongue must start from the early years," said Sweety Purification.

Principal Dalia Rodriguez encouraged children to practice and respect their mother tongue Bengali through her speech.

Teacher Anjali shared a brief history of Shaheed Day with the students.  

"On this day in 1952, students of Dhaka University and some social activists staged a protest to maintain the existence of their mother tongue. The protest soon turned into a massacre. Sixteen people were killed in this incident for their remembrance. We started Mother Language day to honor them,” she said.

There were patriotic performances including recitation of songs and poems like "Amar Bhaiyer Rôkte Rangano Ekushe Februari Ami Ki Bhulite Pari ..." Bangla song.

Dhaka Credit Child Care and Education Center are dedicated to an emergent curriculum that provides authentic early childhood experiences to children aged 18 months to 6 years old while encouraging a strong environmental awareness.

The center is a new eco-friendly preschool in Dhaka. Here classrooms offer children a myriad of experiences for diverse learning possibilities. Students are provided to understand and value the importance of children having time to connect with nature.

The centre provides opportunities for children to explore the outdoors through experiential experiences with clay, sand, water, natural materials, and gardening.

The center strives to create a second home for children, where their growing needs are fulfilled in a safe, healthy and creative environment for optimal growth in Bangladesh’s future generation.
