Indian nun dies in a car accident in America

An Indian nun died in a car accident in Connecticut, America on February 8. She was 40.  Sister Anila Puthanthara, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS), was killed in a car accident in the United States.

An Indian nun died in a car accident in Connecticut, America on February 8. She was 40.

Sister Anila Puthanthara, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS), was killed in a car accident in the United States.

Sister Bridgit Pulakudiyil and Sister Leons Therese Manimala, who were in the car with Sister Anila, escaped with serious injuries.

The accident occurred on Monday morning (9.30 PM Indian time) while Sister Anila and others were traveling to the workplace.

The car slipped off the road due to heavy rain and snow and collided with another car.

The nuns serve at the Saint Joseph Living Center (nursing and home for the aged), Connecticut, under Norwich’s Diocese.

Sister Anila is a native of Badiyadukka, a town in the Kasaragod district, Kerala, South India. She was the daughter of Kuriakos and Claramma.

The nun belongs to the St. Joseph Province of the congregation based in Thalassery, Kerala.

According to sources, efforts are on to bring the nun’s body back home to Kerala.
