Newly ordained Indian Jesuit priest dies in a bike accident

A newly ordained Jesuit priest died in a road accident in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district in India on January 10.

Father Arun's motorcycle was hit by a truck around 4 PM near Bandarchua village near Kunkuri, in Chhattisgarh state in India.

He was admitted to Kunkurin's Holy Cross Hospital in critical condition and the doctors confirmed that he had already passed away.

Father Arun Bara SJ joined the order on June 29, 2009, and pronounced his first vows on June 21, 2011. He was ordained a priest on October 26, 2022.

According to the provincial of the Madhya Pradesh Jesuits, “he was appointed to his pastoral ministry at Shanti Bhavan in Jashpur.”

A sad note from the provincial said he shared the news of Father Arun Bara, SJ's passing with a heavy heart.

"We Jesuits have lost a very young priest who was ordained in October 2022 and asks that he be received into God's glory and granted eternal peace," Jesuit Provincial.

On January 11, the funeral Mass and burial were conducted at Khrist Milan Ashram, Namna, Ambikapur, a major city in Chhattisgarh.

Father Bara was born on November 9, 1989.

In Jharkhand, he attended St Stanislaus College at Sitagarha, and in Andhra Pradesh, he attended Andhra Loyola College at Vijayawada.

He completed his philosophy at Satya Nilayam, Chennai and theology at the Regional Theology College in Ranchi and Vidya Jyoti College of Theology in Delhi.
