The Archangels are bridges and bridge-builders of God!

September 29, 2025 Monday of the Twenty-sixth Week in Ordinary Time
Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels
Daily Readings: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; John 1:47-51
The Feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael reminds us of some visible and concrete dimensions of God’s presence in the lives of certain Biblical personalities and consequently in our lives today. God protects us from all kinds of evils through His arch-commander Michael who subdued Lucifer and his companions. He is the leader of the heavenly armies. God keeps sending His path-breaking announcements and messages through Gabriel as He did with Zechariah and Mother Mary. He is the bringer of good news. God heals all our wounds and guides us as He did in the family of Tobit. He is a facilitator of family problems and illness.
The Book of Prophet Daniel is full of apocalyptic visions. Today’s text depicts a vision of a heavenly courtroom. Daniel sees a throne and God the Father is seated on the throne. He is described as an Ancient One clothed in white. His head is like pure wool. His throne is surrounded by fiery flames. He has come to judge the living and the dead as we profess in the Credo. The Book of Life is given to Him and He opens it to pronounce His judgements. The one who looks like a human being with the clouds of heaven is Jesus Christ. He is brought before the Ancient One. God grants Jesus dominion, glory and kingship. All nations should serve him.
The Gospel reading of today begins with Jesus’ encounter with Nathanael. Jesus describes him as a “true Israelite in whom there is no deceit”. Jesus clears Nathanael’s sceptical attitude. The text concludes with Jesus speaking about Jacob’s spectacular dream in Bethel. Jesus says, “… you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man” (John 1:51). Amazingly the Son of Man is a like ladder connecting heaven and earth. Not only the Son of Man but also his angels will bridge the chasm between God and His people. The Angels and Archangels are bridges and bridge builders.
Call to Action: Whenever we defend someone in trouble or comfort and console someone in sorrow and help heal the inner wounds, we can also become visible angels and archangels. The invitation stands valid even today!
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
