Blessed is the womb that bore Jesus!

October 11, 2025 Saturday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Joel 4:12-21; Luke 11:27-28
The concept of “Day of the Lord” occupies our attention in the reading from Hebrew Minor Prophet Joel. He calls it a day of harvest. He calls the people to the valley of decision as their wickedness is great. This day is accompanied by all kinds of apocalyptic signs such as darkening of sun and moon. The heavens and the earth stumble. With the Lord, nothing ends with destruction. He stands strong as a refuge for His people. He dwells in His holy mountain Zion. Jerusalem shall be holy. A fountain of water will flow from the house of the Lord. The oppressors of Judah will become desolate while Judah will remain thickly populated. When the Lord God is around us and if we place our faith and trust in Him, no one can be against us. Finally, everything depends upon us! Joel challenges God’s people to rely on Him more and more!
When we eat a tasty fruit we will tend to give credit to the tree. In modern times, we believe that good and branded products come from well established companies. When Jesus impressed the crowds with his prodigious miracles and teachings, a woman recognizes the greatness of Jesus and credits everything to his mother (blessed is the womb that bore him and the breasts that nurtured him). Going beyond the tangible or the physical dimensions, Jesus praises his mother Mary for her spiritual ability to hear the Word of God and obey it. As Saint Augustine says, Mother Mary conceived Jesus first in her heart and then in her womb. Therefore, those who really wish to become holy must keep their inner-self pure from all kinds of stain. It can happen only when the Word of God becomes the foundation stone of our life.
St. Pope John XXIII brought renewal and restoration to Holy Mother Church through the convocation of the Second Vatican Council against all odds. He relied on God. Known for his humorous style of life, he lives in the hearts of the people as Papa Buono, the good Pope.
Call to Action: Holiness of life is brought about doing things that are simple with love of God and strong commitment. Do I attempt and dare to do my responsibility with utmost commitment?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
