Carrying Burdens Together

December 10, 2025 Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent
Daily Readings: Isaiah 40:25-31; Matthew 11:28-30

Children of God: Our family has a story that has been passed down from generation to generation — a story about faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. One night during World War II, the Tan-Fiel family of Ormoc heard a knock at around ten in the evening. Japanese soldiers came and demanded that the family surrender their radio. Agaton Fiel, the father, had already given the radio earlier to another family. Still, the soldiers insisted they were hiding something and ordered Agaton to come with them. The family began to cry, fearing that this might be the last time they would see him. At the end of the staircase, the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was hanging. When the soldiers reached that spot, Emiliana, Agaton’s wife, pleaded, “Can we pray first as a family? Because we are Catholics.” The Japanese soldiers consented. That night, December 6, they prayed hard for a miracle. The next day, December 7, was Agaton’s birthday — and indeed, a miracle happened. The soldiers decided not to take him anymore. From that night onward, the family’s faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus grew deeper than ever. And this story is now being handed one generation after another.

Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He invites those who are tired — not just in body, but in heart and spirit — to come to Him. The Fiel family in Ormoc that night during World War II was weary with fear and despair. But in turning to Jesus, they found peace and protection. Like them, when life becomes too heavy, when we no longer know what to do, Jesus calls us not to run away from Him, but to run to Him. When we carry our problems alone, the load is unbearable. But when we share it with Christ, He gives us strength, courage, and peace. To be yoked with Jesus is to walk side by side with Him — no longer slaves to fear, but companions of the Savior.

In our daily struggles, whether family problems, sickness, loneliness, or the weight of uncertainty, Jesus reminds us that we are never alone. His Sacred Heart still beats with compassion for each of us. Just as He comforted the weary in the Gospel, and just as He saved a frightened family in Ormoc that December night, He continues to offer rest for our weary souls today.

Children of God: When life becomes too heavy, let us remember the promise of the Lord: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). Let us bring our fears, our sorrows, and our weariness to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who never abandons those who trust in Him.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
