Faith Unlocks the power of God’s word!

August 9, 2025 Saturday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Deuteronomy 6:4-13; Matthew 17:14-20
The Shema Yisrael (“Hear, O Israel”) is more than a daily Jewish prayer, it affirms God's oneness in a polytheistic world. Moses, aware of Israel’s spiritual dangers in Canaan, called for undivided love for God, with heart, soul, and strength, and urged families to pass this on. Festivals like Passover (recalling liberation from Egypt) and Pentecost (celebrating the giving of the Law) highlight the covenant's centrality.
Faith, however, must be lived out in obedience. In the Gospel, a desperate father pleads with Jesus to heal his son, as even the disciples fail. Jesus rebukes their lack of faith, stressing that true faith is not mere belief but personal attachment to Him.
Faith is not magic; it is a relationship. It means trusting God even in trials. St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), a brilliant philosopher turned martyr, lived this truth. Her faith shone brightest in suffering.
Call to Action: Let us ask: Is our faith just an idea, or a relationship strong enough to move mountains? Do we truly love and trust Jesus? In a world marked by divisions and doubts, let our faith be personal, practical, and persevering, the kind that moves mountains.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
