September 05, 2025 Friday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Colossians 1:15-20; Luke 5:33-39

Today’s first reading presents a majestic Christological hymn, portraying Jesus Christ as the image of the invisible God, the perfect revelation of the Father. His words to Philip, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9), echo this truth. He is the firstborn of all creation, through whom all things came into being (John 1:3). This imagery recalls the Book of Proverbs (8:22-31), where the Son of God is personified as divine Wisdom, present at creation. Paul further reveals Christ as the head of the body, the Church, its source of life and salvation (Ephesians 5:23). In Jesus, the fullness of God dwells, and through Him, the Father reconciles all things, making peace by the blood of His cross.

The Gospel contrasts this divine reality with human resistance to transformation. The Pharisees and scribes criticize Jesus because His disciples feast while others fast. Their remark is exaggerated, yet it reveals a deeper misunderstanding of Christ’s mission. Jesus answers with a striking image: the Bridegroom is among them. His presence is a time of joy; fasting will come when He is taken away. He then uses two parables, the new patch on an old garment and new wine in old wineskins, to underscore a vital truth: the new covenant He brings cannot be contained by old structures.

The Pharisees, bound by legalism, fail to see that Jesus inaugurates something radically new, a covenant of grace, joy, and inner transformation. His call is not to discard the Law but to fulfill it in a new way: through love, mercy, and a life renewed by His Spirit.

As disciples today, we are invited to embrace this newness of life in Christ. He is not merely an addition to our old ways but a transformative presence who makes all things new. To follow Him is to allow His life, wisdom, and peace to permeate ours completely.

Call to Action: Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata’s love for Christ was fully expressed in the Senior Care Homes and orphanages where abandoned infants were raised. A celibate religious nun became a mother to thousands, not by giving them physical birth, but by nurturing them spiritually. Where and how do I show my affection?

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
